Enlightenment and America

Describe how social contract theorists and the Enlightenment fundamentally changed our thinking about the legitimacy (foundation) of the state, and of what kinds of things were to constrain the body politic. Be specific and mention many thinkers.

When you are done all of that, describe how this intellectual happenstance affected the way that American government was configured. How is American government philosophically different from Roman and medieval political institutions? What is the logic of American government and how is it different from before?
